The parental role intersects with the
concepts of accountability and continuous adaptation. It brings with it the
need for repeated adjustments made necessary by the construction of new family
relationships and work (Cecchetto, 2015).
The adaptation of the adult stage is
linked with the continuous changes crossed by the new generations.
The parental role involves the need
to put in place the appropriate behaviors. The past patterns are no longer able
to orient it. This is because modern society has become more complex, and this
has had repercussions in the family.
The parental roles, in particular,
are becoming increasingly interchangeable and shortly outlined. Parents are
increasingly unable to contain the fragility and emotions.
You can identify four types of
communication styles within the family (Orlandini and others). Each style has
advantages and disadvantages and it is the duty of parents to choose the
appropriate style according to the situation.
The first is communication style
friendly. This style is typical of everyday life. The goal is to avoid
conflicts and disagreements.
The second style is to control. It is
based on the imposition of rules without explanation. The style in question, on
the one hand, it is necessary to drive the growth of the children. On the other
side, however, it can cause problems. Style exclusively communicative affect
self-esteem and does not facilitate growth and emotional autonomy of the child.
Another style is communicative. It
allows you to reflect and examine the consequences of a particular choice. This
style requires the expression in the first person, and urges the answer in the
form of feedback.
The latest style is affectionate and
cooperative. It is based on understanding and empathy. It is a style
appropriate adolescence, because it helps the construction of the self.
