The body can not be considered a thing possessed but a field of experience. Some authors refer to the concept of body schema (Sbattella, Castles, Pines, 2015). It indicates the construction of the neurophysiological representation of body. However, we must also consider the physical identity. It is the features and quality that the individual attaches to his body.
The teenager through somatic and psychological changes very strong. These changes are related in a relational and social environment in which it is inserted.
The somatic transformations are characterized by individual variability. In females the growth spurt occurs on average two years earlier than males (Sbattella, Castles, Pines, 2015).
The psychological impact of these changes is variable. Some young people incur in the so-called evolutionary arrhythmia. It manifests itself when during development appear inharmonies physical appearance.
They can happen early or late puberty. This early development has different effects in males and females. From the psychological point of view, in fact, for males in general is an advantage. For females, however, the opposite situation occurs.
During adolescence the young also builds their gender identity. It consists of many factors. They are the biological, subjective, cognitive, social, educational and cultural. The young can for example recognize the differences in how you feel on a subjective level, in its cognitive assessment and social representation, which corresponds to how he thinks others see.
In this respect many authors pose the importance of socialization context in which you put the development of sexual role (Huston and Alvarez, 1990).
